Civic Engagement Kickoff

Today at 6 pm in Brownsville, TX & tomorrow at 10 am in Alamo, TX — The RGV Equal Voice Network’s Civic Engagement Working Group will host two information sessions in Cameron and Hidalgo County to inform and educate community members on how to make their voices heard through civic engagement. The information sessions will feature special guests Genesis Sanchez, regional census manager of the NALEO Educational Fund, and Elizabeth Bille, Texas state director of the NALEO Educational Fund. Local RGV-EVN community organizers and leaders will also present.

Event activities will include a community discussion on how to advance the interests of residents, as well as information about the upcoming November elections, the 2020 Census and the 2020 Presidential elections.

Network Weaver Christina Patiño Houle says, "This is an important time in the history of the Rio Grande Valley and our nation. This event represents a year of our focused collaboration with the community to make sure that we have the tools and knowledge to make sure that our voices are heard."

“Poder de Tu Voz” is the first in a year-long series of civic engagement capacity building trainings that the Equal Voice Network will host from October 2019 - November 2020.
